How to Apply Motorcycle Driving License in Taiwan
Today I want to share information like what I mention above “How to
Apply Driving License in Taiwan”. Don’t ever thinking that apply driving
license in Taiwan nowadays is a piece of cake. Oh nah, you wrong man. Because
since 1990 Taiwan’s driving accident numbers is so big so they gradually change
the rules and also applying driving license as well. So, without further
speaking nonsense, let’s we start.
1. Things you have to
prepared before applying Driving License:
a.
2 recent photograph (size: 1”)
(one for medical check-up, one for driving license page)
b.
Medical check-up record (not
every clinics can make it, so before you go, better ask the clinic or hospital
first either they can help you to medical check-up for driving license)
c.
ARC (Alien Resident
Certificate)
2. Medical Check-up:
a.
Going
to clinic or hospital that can help you to medical check-up for driving license
needs. In my case which is living in Taichung, I was going to this clinic:

b.
When you arrive there, you have
to say to the receptionist that you want medical check-up for motorcycle
driving license, then she will give you one form that you have to fill in (your
identity). At that time I was come there at 12pm, so we have to wait doctor at
3pm.
c.
After doctor is available,
return the filling in form, ARC, a recent photograph and pay 150NTD, waiting doctor
calling your name to check your weight, height, eyes, ears and blind-color
test. After that doctor also check your body is healthy enough to allow you to
drive motorcycle. Finish check-up, we have to wait around 10 minutes then the
nurse will give us Medical check-up result card that we have to bring when test
day.

3. Prepare Yourself (Learn
about Taiwan Traffic Rules)
a.
You can check this link to
download all the Taiwan Traffic Lessons base on your mother language, if
there’s not available your mother language, you can use English or Chinese
then:

b.
To pass the written test, you
have to get score minimum 85 from 50 questions, and for road test you have to
get score minimum 70. You can learn practical test in this video:

The video not giving you subtitles at all,
but don’t worry you have to watch it well. They will tell you how to pass the
road test. If you have your own motorcycle, you can bring it and use it for
road test, if you don’t, don’t worry, they renting motorcycle for road test,
fee 24NTD/once.
c.
You can use online exam to check your learning is enough to attend the
test. It will look like the real one when you getting the test.

4.
Made an Appointment
a.
Before you go to 台中區監理所 (Taichung Inspection and Control
Bureau), you have to made an appointment, if you are busy enough in weekdays,
you can go there in weekend (In Taichung Beitun, every second week of a month
they have weekend service). You can check this link to made an appointment:
After you fill in ARC number and DOB, click "Inquiry and Cancellation"
Then the screen will show like this below:
After
that, will show up like this below which is indicate your appointment is
successful:
5.
Test Day
a.
Make sure you come to台中區監理所 (Taichung Inspection and Control
Bureau) before 8am. At there you can learn “balancing line” in the motor parking
area.
Some people said that this test is really
scary one, because you have to through the straight line for minimum 7 seconds
(you can’t touch the white line and your feet can’t touch the ground, if so,
you have to come back one week again to road test). But don’t worry, they will
give you two chances. At least you have to ride your motor at 10km/hour and trying
balance your body.

b.
Go to the registration room to re-register your document. You have to
prepare your ARC, medical check-up result card. Go take queue number in corner
of the room (there will be a volunteer to help you take a number, show them
your ARC and medical check-up result card. After that waiting till your number
will called.
c.
When your number called, go to counters and give your ARC, medical
check-up result card, a recent photograph, and 250NTD (125NTD for written test,
125NTD for road test). If you don’t bring motorcycle, you can say to them you
want rent a motorcycle, it will be charge 24NTD once.
d.
Wait till your name called to take a written
test. Inside test room, please turn off your hand-phone and put your bag on the
rack they already prepared there. Then you sit on the number you ordered by the
staff. Written test take 30 minutes. If you finish already before the time, you
can tell to the staff, then the staff will give you the documents that you
should bring to road test (if u pass the test, minimum score is 85, if you not
pass the test, you can try again next week after that).

e. This
is the flow chart of driving license test:

If you pass written test, go to the road test site area. Take a number
then wait till your number called. If you rent their motorcycle, you have to
tell to the staff when your number called. (I really suggest you to rent their
motorcycle, because it very light and small, suitable to the road test area
which is very narrow). When your number called, give the documents to the staff
there.

g.
So here’s the flow of the road test:
Actually it’s not really difficult. You have
to calm yourself down first and keep in your mind to not touch the line (if you
do, it will ringing), feet never touch the ground except when you stop the
motorcycle, your head gesture (look around, and when you want to turn right or
left, gesture you look right and left side) .
Minimum score is 70. If you touch the line, deduct your score 32 points,
it means you have to take exam again after 7 days.
h.
If you pass the road test, your name will called by the staff and give
your ARC. Then go the seminary room to attending lecture and study about Taiwan
Traffics Knowledge for 90 minutes. The seminar time will separate two parts:
10.00-11.30 and 13.00-14.30.
Come to the seminar room and show your ARC
to the staff, and the staff will order you sit base on the number they ordered.

i. After finish attend the seminar, go to the road test site area again to
receive your driving license. You have to pay 200NTD for that.
