Book Review "What on earth Am I Here For?" by Rick Warren (Part 3)
Hello again in my blog. So I want to continue the previous post about book review "What on Earth Am I Here For?" by Rick Warren. Here is the third chapter of the book. Without any useless chit-chat, so here we go!
3. What Drives Your Life?
Here are 5 commons that can drive your life:
Bible say in Psalm 32:1 "What happiness for those whose guilt has been forgiven... What relief for those who have confessed their sins and God has cleared their record."
- Many people are driven by GUILT
Bible say in Psalm 32:1 "What happiness for those whose guilt has been forgiven... What relief for those who have confessed their sins and God has cleared their record."
2. Many people are driven by RESENTMENT
Those who have hurt you in the past can't continue to hurt you now unless you hold on to the pain through resentment.
Bible say in Job 5:2 "To worry yourself to death with resentment would be a foolish, senseless thing to do."
3. Many people are driven by FEAR
Fear is a self-imposed prison that will keep you from becoming what God intends for you to be. To defeat it, you have to have the spiritual weapons of faith and love.
Bible say in 1 John 4:18 "Well-formed love banishes fear. Since fear is crippling, a fearful life-fear of death, fear of judgement-is one not yet fully formed in love."
4. Many people are driven by MATERIALISM
Misconception about materialism are more happy, important and secure.
Many people are driven by peer pressure, always worried by what others might think. But, those who follow the crowd usually get lost in it.
Bible say in Matthew 6:24 "No one can serve two masters."
There are other forces that can drive our life, but they all lead to the same dead end: unused potential, unnecessary stress, and an unfulfilled life. Without a purpose, life is a motion without meaning, activity without direction, and events without reason. Without a purpose, life is trivial, petty, and pointless.
So, here's a practical benefits of living a purpose-driven life:
In bible says,
2. Knowing your purpose simplifies your life
Don't waste you time to do what's not your purpose of life.
In bible says,
3. Knowing your purpose focuses your life
If you want your life to have impacts, FOCUS it!
In bible says,
"Don't live carelessly, unthinkingly. Make sure you understand what the Master wants." (Ephesians 5:17)
4. Knowing your purpose energizes your life
Purpose = Passion
Living to create an earthly legacy is a shortsighted goal. God will give us a test before He gave us eternity:
1. What did you do with My Son, Jesus Christ?
Determine where you spend eternity-with God or separated from God. God wants us to get to know, love and trust His Son, Jesus, because "Jesus is the only way." (John 14:6)
2. What did you do with your life?
Did you spend them on yourself or to fulfill God's purposes for your life? Determine what you do in eternity-your responsibilities rewards in Heaven.

Misconception about materialism are more happy, important and secure.
- Happy : Possessions only provide TEMPORARY happiness
- Important : God says the most valuable things in life aren't "things"!
- Secure : Real security can only be found in that which can never be taken from you-your relationship to God

4. Knowing your purpose energizes your life
Purpose = Passion
"This is a true joy of life: the being used up for a purpose recognized by yourself as a mighty one; being a force of nature instead of a feverish, selfish little dot of ailments and grievances, complaining that the world won't devote itself to making you happy."
-- George Bernard Shaw5. Knowing your purpose prepares you for eternity

Question to Consider:
If you asked your family and friends to describe what drives your life, what driving force or motivations would they mention?
Why do you think most people are not driven and guided by the purpose of their lives?
What habits, or hurts, or hang-ups, or fears might keep you from beginning to live out and enjoy God's purpose for your life?
